UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk to deliver keynote address to nursing’s Class of 2025

More than 200 nursing students are preparing to cross the Royce Hall stage at this year’s UCLA School of Nursing Commencement Ceremony, taking place June 14, 2025.
Along with several faculty and student speakers, graduates will hear a keynote address from UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk.
Dr. Frenk became the university’s seventh chancellor on January 1, making this his first commencement season at UCLA. Along with leading the nation’s #1 public university, he is also a renowned global health researcher who has held positions in government and academia, both in the U.S. and in Mexico. Chancellor Frenk has previously served as the president of the University of Miami and as dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and prior to that, as federal secretary of health of Mexico, where he implemented a groundbreaking program that expanded access to healthcare to over 55 million uninsured individuals.
"We are honored to welcome Chancellor Frenk as this year’s keynote speaker,” said UCLA School of Nursing Dean Lin Zhan. “His distinguished background in healthcare and deep appreciation for the nursing profession make him an especially meaningful presence at our celebration. His insights will no doubt inspire our graduates as they step into their roles as compassionate and skilled nurse clinicians, researchers, educators, and leaders."
The School of Nursing Class of 2025 represents nearly every facet of the nursing profession. From pre-licensed bachelor’s and master’s students just beginning their healthcare careers, to advanced practice nurses taking their next steps, and doctorally prepared nurses leading the way in healthcare and research.
Congratulations to all of this year’s graduates! Go Bruins!
A livestream of this year’s event will be available on the school’s YouTube channel.
