The LatinX Nursing Student-Alumni Association

This month in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we are highlighting the Latinx Nursing Student-Alumni Association’s (LANSA) and their mission to advance the health and well-being of LatinX communities through collaborative partnerships within the School of Nursing (SON) and the greater Los Angeles area. They aim to empower and advocate for LatinX nursing students and Latinx Bruin Nurses, while fostering educational and professional opportunities.

Recently, LANSA went through a revitalization and elected a new Leadership Board. Their new Co-Presidents, Danielle Chavez and Darlene Reynoso, have taken the reins and plan to guide LANSA into having a more active role in the School of Nursing. They want to promote more member engagement and raise funds to support their future endeavors.

LANSA is enjoying their revival and plans to host many events in the upcoming months, including a Cultural Potluck Social to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, a movie night featuring the Disney/Pixar film “Coco”, and a variety of workshops and panels which focus on Hispanic nurses in different fields and their work and challenges.

Last year, they decorated the SON lobby with festive décor for el Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and they plan to do it again this year – continuing the tradition of celebrating life, paying respects to our loved ones and spreading cheer and warmth throughout the halls of the nursing school for all to enjoy.
