UCLA Nursing celebrates excellence with Sigma Theta Tau Induction

The Gamma Tau at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing recently hosted its annual induction ceremony at UCLA. The event brought together more than 50 new members from the UCLA School of Nursing and UCLA Health Nurse Leaders, each recognized for their academic and clinical excellence, leadership, and commitment to service.
Founded in 1978, the Gamma Tau at-Large Chapter is the 89th chapter in Sigma’s international network. It represents a longstanding tradition of academic and professional excellence at UCLA and beyond. The chapter includes members from UCLA School of Nursing, UCLA Health, CSU Channel Islands, and CSU Northridge.
At the ceremony, new members were officially inducted and presented with STTI honor certificates and purple cords symbolizing their achievements and dedication to the nursing profession. Attendees also heard from Dr. K. David Bailey, Chief Nursing Officer at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, who delivered an inspiring keynote address highlighting the essential role nurses play in leadership and advancing healthcare. Dean Zhan from the School of Nursing spoke about the history behind the name Sigma Theta Tau, which is derived from Greek words meaning Love, Courage, and Honor. More than 100 years later, these values continue to serve as a common bond among Sigma members around the world.
The event was part of a broader month-long Nurses Month celebration that included opportunities for networking, orientation, and engagement with chapter activities.
