UCLA School of Nursing Professor Sarah Choi, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FAAN, and Associate Professor Yeonsu Song, PhD, RN, FNP-C, have been awarded a National Institutes of Health R21grant titled, ‘A Culturally Adapted Sleep Intervention Program for Older Asian Immigrants with Limited English Proficiency.’

Study Summary:
This study aims to develop a culturally adapted sleep intervention program and to evaluate its feasibility and preliminary efficacy for older Korean immigrants with poor sleep, one of the fastest-growing immigrant groups in the United States with limited access to mainstream sleep therapies. The intervention will be based on the core components of an existing cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic sleep problems and finalized in an iterative, cultural adaptation process. Improved sleep health through such intervention in this subgroup of Asian immigrants may lead to a way to address sleep health disparities among Asian Americans.
