Nursing researcher releases Women’s Health Initiative Clinical Trial Update to Journal of Clinical Oncology
UCLA School of Nursing Associate Professor Su Yon Jung, PhD, has published a new study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
The publication, Estrogen Plus Progestin and Colorectal Cancer: Long-Term Findings From the Women's Health Initiative Randomized Clinical Trial, provides a long-term update on the effect of female hormone therapy on colorectal cancer risk among postmenopausal women with a uterus. The women’s Health Initiative previously published data demonstrating the protective effect of hormonal therapy within five years. However, this new study revokes that pattern after longer follow-up.
This finding will provide important research evidence for guided clinical decision-making and future directions for mechanical studies.
The Women’s Health Initiative is a long-term national health study that prospectively collects health outcomes from more than 100,000 postmenopausal women. Dr. Jung has been involved in this research group by exerting her strong leadership as an WHI Associate Member.
