Portraits of Carol Cunningham and Theresa Brown

UCLA School of Nursing faculty members Dr. Theresa Brown and Dr. Carol Cunningham have been selected to serve as regional and state liaisons for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). AANP is the largest national professional membership organization for NPs of all specialties.

The AANP’s mission is to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership. They represent 385,000 licensed NPs in the country.

Carol L. Cunningham, DNP, MSN, RNFA, FNP-C, is an assistant adjunct professor in the UCLA School of Nursing, APRN Program. Dr. Cunningham has been elected to serve as the AANP California State Liaison.

Theresa Brown, DNP, ACNP-BC, AACC, FAANP, is an assistant adjunct professor and director of UCLA’s Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Program. Dr. Brown has served as the AANP Region 9 Director, representing Arizona, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, and the U.S. Pacific Territory, since 2021. 

In their roles, they will work together to advocate at local, state and federal levels to support NPs and their patients. They will facilitate networking by communicating key message points to nurse practitioners (NP), and NP students, individual members, NP Organizations members and others who support the practice of NPs.
