Gerardo Flores

UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing Assistant Teaching Professor Gerardo Flores, PhD, RN, MSN, MSK, has been appointed to the 2025 -2027 Jonas Scholar Alumni Council

The council plays an important role in strengthening the bond between the Scholar alumni network and Jonas Nursing, ensuring continued collaboration, professional development opportunities, and advancement of nursing excellence.

Jonas Nursing has provided approximately $27 million in scholarships to more than 1,400 doctoral nursing students nationwide. The organization aims to support nurses who will address the nation’s most pressing healthcare needs, increase the number of nurses with advanced training, and improve the health of veterans by supporting doctoral-level nursing candidates committed to advancing veterans healthcare.

Dr. Flores joins nine other Jonas Scholar alumni on the newly named council and will serve in this role for two years. He participated in the Jonas Scholars program from 2016-2018 while pursuing his PhD in Nursing at the UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing. The scholars program works to improve health care by expanding the pool of PhD and DNP-prepared nurses needed to educate the next generation of nurse leaders.

“I am truly honored to continue serving the nursing profession through the Jonas Scholar Alumni Council,” said Dr. Flores. “The Jonas program has profoundly shaped my personal and professional journey, and this role gives me the opportunity to give back to a community that invested in me. I look forward to helping strengthen connections among Scholars and alumni while supporting the next generation of nurse leaders dedicated to advancing health equity, mentorship, and excellence in care.”
