Anthony Tolentino

UCLA School of Nursing Assistant Professor Anthony Tolentino has been selected as a 2024 Health Disparities Research Institute (HDRI) Scholar by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).

The HDRI is a week-long program at the National Institutes of Health featuring lectures on minority health and health disparities research, small group discussions, mock grant review, and seminars. Scholars have the opportunity to meet with NIH scientific staff engaged in related health disparities research across the various NIH Institutes and Centers.

According to his HDRI profile, Tolentino committed to an academic career in biobehavioral research to improve the health outcomes of minoritized groups, particularly Filipino Americans. His research interests center on the sociocultural and biobehavioral factors of health. He applies both qualitative and quantitative methods. His current research aims to fill a critical gap in the understanding of the factors that underlie the dis/engagement of Asian Americans participating in diabetes self-management programs and to map where these programs exist in Los Angeles to identify high/low resource needs.
