Korie Bigbee, a nurse practitioner and current Doctor of Nursing Practice student at the UCLA School of Nursing, presented her research at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Annual Retreat. Her project focuses on survivorship care for patients who have received allogeneic stem cell transplants for hematologic cancers.
Bigbee, who will be graduating with her DNP in June, analyzed medical chart data to understand the extent to which current practice patterns align with recommended guidelines. She plans to use this information to develop a standard operating procedure to ensure that all transplant recipients get the care they need.
Allogeneic stem cell transplants involve transferring the stem cells from a healthy person (the donor) to the patient’s body after high-intensity chemotherapy or radiation. It is most often used in the treatment of blood cancers.
