Dean Lin Zhan invited to speak at Inaugural UC Health Innovating the Future Conference
UCLA School of Nursing Dean Lin Zhan was invited to take part in the Opening Panel discussion at the inaugural Innovating the Future: Women Leaders as Catalysts for Change, a conference hosted by the University of California Health.
The event, held March 1 in Oakland, CA, provided an opportunity for the UC Health community to share best practices, connect UC and national leaders, and discuss strategies to help drive change and innovation.
Dean Zhan participated in the opening panel discussion, Making Room for Inclusive Leadership at University of California, where she was joined by several other Deans and executive leadership from across the UC Health system.
As one of the panelists, Dean Zhan shared, “inclusive leaders must possess qualities of humility, empathy, openness, commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusivity in decision making processes.” The panel of deans across UC Health emphasized that inclusive leadership should actively combat structural exclusion, and examine any implicit or explicit biases which can undermine efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion.
“UCLA Nursing has a rich history of innovative women leaders, beginning with our founding Dean Lulu Hassenplug, a true pioneer of modern nursing,” said Dean Zhan. “It’s wonderful to see UC Health amplifying the impact of women leaders across our system and I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to lend my voice to these powerful conversations that are leading to a more inclusive system.”
