The UCLA School of Nursing pin

The UCLA School of Nursing held its 2025 Blue & Gold Ceremonies, also known as pinning, on June 12 – a tradition that signifies a student’s completion of their entry level nursing education and their advancement to healthcare.

Nearly 70 Master of Science in Nursing (MECN) students and 60 Bachelor of Science in Nursing students received their nursing pins at the annual event. Students were joined by their families and friends to celebrate this momentous occasion just days before their commencement ceremony at Royce Hall.

Along with faculty speakers chosen by each cohort, students also heard from Pre-licensure Program Director Dr. Emma Cuenca and School of Nursing Dean Lin Zhan

“People’s health needs nurses,” said Dean Zhan in her keynote address. “We - including you - have a social mandate for improving health for all! Graduates - be passionate, be purposeful, and be persistent.”

Graduating students also received a big surprise at the event – a free set of scrubs from Barco’s Nightingale Foundation, a longtime supporter of the UCLA School of Nursing.
