UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing Assistant Professor Kia Skrine Jeffers, PhD, RN, PHN, has been elected as an American Public Health Association Governing Councilor representing the public health nursing section. 

A community health nurse and educator, Dr. Skrine Jeffers’ research addresses mental health promotion and cardiometabolic disease prevention among Black women across their life through participatory, arts-based, and mixed methods approaches. Her work aims to develop community-based, mental health interventions, while, in the classroom, she leads UCLA’s Public Health Nursing didactic and clinical courses for undergraduate students. 

The American Public Health Association’s Governing Council is the representative body of APHA and works to establish policies for the association and guidance for the executive board. Dr. Skrine Jeffers has served APHA as a Section Councilor since 2023.
