Benissa E. Salem, PhD, RN, MSN, PHN, CNL is a community-based, nurse scientist, and academician with a commitment, passion, and drive to reduce health disparities among people experiencing homelessness and underserved communities.  As a community-engaged, nurse scientist, she utilizes mixed methods approaches and community-based participatory research principles (CBPR) to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions with people experiencing homelessness.   Dr. Salem previously completed a National Institute of Nursing Research T32 health disparities pre-and-post doctoral fellowship and holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Studies with a minor in News, Media, and Society from the University of Southern California, Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science from UCLA.    Dr. Salem has experience teaching, mentoring (research, teaching), and guest lecturing across Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs, and is actively involved in professional scholarship and community-based research.
