Dr. Anthony Tolentino awarded Racial and Social Justice Seed Grant
UCLA School of Nursing Assistant Professor Anthony Tolentino has been awarded a Racial and Social Justice Seed Grant from the UCLA Institute of American Cultures.
Tolentino’s study, "Colonial Mentality and Health: Exploring the Narratives and Implications for Filipino Americans,” aims to better understand colonial mentality by exploring how its social, cultural, political, and historical meanings impact Filipino-Americans’ healthcare experiences.
“By unpacking these meanings and attitudes toward internalized racism in health or healthcare services, we can identify potential barriers to health and how multiple levels of racism and colonialism must be addressed to promote health equity within the Fil-Am community,” he said.
The grant, funded by the UCLA Institute of American Cultures (IAC) in collaboration with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Creative Activities (ORCA), supports research aimed at understanding the root causes and consequences of racial inequities and advancing social justice.
