Dr. Amy Lohmann, a longtime UCLA School of Nursing faculty member and health care provider, has passed away after a lengthy battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was only 46 years old.
For more than a decade, Lohmann helped shape and guide thousands of UCLA School of Nursing students into competent and capable health care professionals. Her journey at UCLA began as a student in the school’s Dual Primary Care PNP/CNS program. After graduating in 2005, Lohmann went on to practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Facey Medical Foundation and at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
She returned to UCLA in 2012, this time as a faculty member, and would later become a Continuing Lecturer while working towards her doctoral degree in nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She will be fondly remembered by her students as well as her faculty and staff colleagues for her kindness, smile, and endless optimism.
“She was an outstanding teacher, always had a smile on her face, and supported and advocated for our PNP students and the pediatric patients under her care,” said Dr. Nancy Pike, a longtime friend and colleague. “She will be dearly missed.”
Lohmann’s impact on nursing and health care will forever live on in the patients she cared for and the students she helped guide.
