Mexico, Cuba Travel 2014

ANNOUNCEMENT
UCLA SCHOOL OF NURSING
GLOBAL GRADUATE TRIPS: OAXACA, MEXICO & CUBA

 

The UCLA School of Nursing will again offer the International Experiences in Oaxaca, Mexico (August-September), and Cuba (December), designed to encourage graduate students to become involved globally as universal health messengers and begin collaborative relationships with our hosts. For 2nd Year Masters Entry Clinical Nurse students (MECN), this experience will satisfy 40 of 90 field hours in Public Health Nursing (N171). For APN students, a 3 unit clinical elective course may be satisfied. These experiences would culminate in a scholarly paper or project. A SON award will cover lodging and program costs in the host country, plus visa and partial transportation costs required for the Cuba travel. 

  • Students accepted to either program will provide a $100 deposit plus:
    -Travel/airfare to Oaxaca roundtrip (Mexico program); or
    -Travel/airfare to Miami, Florida roundtrip (Cuba program)

THE APPLICATION IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR BOTH PROGRAMS

  • Applications will be due by 5pm on Friday June 20, 2014

DATES OF THE PROGRAM (TENTATIVE)

  • Summer International Experience in Oaxaca: August 30-September 8, 2014
  • Fall International Experience in Cuba: December 13-22, 2014

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Full-time 2nd year MECN or APN students in the UCLA School of Nursing-must be in good academic standing.
  • Citizen or resident of United States with valid, current passport.
  • Beginning fluency in Spanish or have attended the Medical Spanish course (workshop pending).
  • Flexibility, team player, motivated leader eager for a Latin America or Cuba health experience.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of program faculty, along with a representative from various student organizations.
