Campus-wide resources for TAs

School of Nursing TA Trainings

  • Computer Access & Security:  TAs must complete online security training at  https://www.itsecurity.ucla.edu/education.  Upon completion of this training, the certificate must be presented to IT staff (Factor 4-230) who will then set up your sonnet email account and give you access to classroom computers  in Factor bulding.  If you have any questions about computer access, please contact SON IT office at helpdesk@sonnet.ucla.edu or 310-267-2666.

  • Skills Lab Training: 3-hour training that orients TAs to working in the Skills Lab.  Your knowledge and proficiency with all the assignments on the students' skills check list will be assessed.  An overview of use of manikins and lab procedures is provided.  For more information about the training or to find out when the next ones will take place please contact Jill Jordan, RNC MSN(ed.)   • Simulation Essentials Part I and Part II: entry-level course for those interested in using human patient simulators for nursing education.  TAs are encouraged to complete the simulation courses prior to being a TA for the Skills Lab and pre-licensure fundamentals courses (Nursing 150A&B, and Nursing 254A&B).   Each course is 8 hours long.   The course registration fee of $250 is waived for SON PhD students.  For more information about the training or to find out when the next ones will take place please contact Dr. Mary-Ann Shinnick (mshinnic@sonnet.ucla.edu).

  • Rooms: Factor 5-631 and 5-650 have been designated for TAs to hold office hours and meet with students.  These rooms are on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved.  You can access the rooms wtih your SON ID Badge.  If you have any trouble accessing the rooms, please contact Zoe Taylor (A618): ztaylor@sonnet.ucla.edu
  • Books: Please check with the course instructor about getting a desk copy for the quarter (to be returned at the end of the quarter).
