Admissions Requirements for International Students
M.S.N Advanced Practice Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of the following:

Graduation with a B.S. degree in nursing from a college or university having an accredited nursing program satisfactory to the School of Nursing and to the Graduate Division. Or, graduation with a B.S. degree in nursing from an international institution with a nursing program satisfactory to the School of Nursing and to the Graduate Division.

Status as a licensed registered nurse; prior to entry into any clinical practicum, evidence of current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of California is mandatory.

An approved upper division statistics course or a lower division statistics course with content equivalent to Biostatistics 100A, must be completed before entering the school.

An approved upper division nursing research course taken at an accredited institution and equivalent to Nursing 173, to be completed before entering the school.

Applicants for all specialties except Nursing Administration must have completed an approved upper division Physical Assessment course within the past three years. Applicants are asked to provide a course syllabus or outline showing content for a course completed previously.

Applicants for all specialties except Nursing Administration must have completed an approved upper division Human Physiology course within the past five years. Human Physiology is a prerequisite to Nursing 231, Advanced Pathophysiology.

Professional and/or academic competence in nursing attested through three personal recommendation forms.

A scholarship record satisfactory to the Graduate Division and to the School of Nursing (usually a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required).

Applicants from countries where English is not the primary language and medium of instruction must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 560 on the written test, 220 on the computer-based test or 87 (a score of 84 will be considered for admissions) on the Internet-based test, or complete the International English Language Examination (IELTS) with a minimum overall band score of 7.
- International applicants who are not licensed as registered nurses in the U.S. must achieve a passing score on both English and Nursing sections of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) examination.
