Faculty Research and Clinical Expertise

Research interest: Role of Physical Activity and Diet in the Prevention and Treatment of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases

I am an integrative physiologist with an expertise in the prevention of chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, and have conducted several intervention studies on diet and/or exercise and chronic disease. As PI of the EMDR (www.uclaemdr.com), my research primarily investigates the efficacy and mechanisms by which exercise training and diet interventions prevent metabolic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Specifically, as PI/project leader on current R01, P50 and TRDRP funded grants, I have been investigating the efficacy of interventions on cardiovascular and metabolic health. I have authored >60 original articles and reviews in top sub-specialty journals.
